A lot of people love them, and probably more hate them, but there is no denying the legacy of the New York Yankees. Just look at the names – Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, to name just a few.

Sadly, the Steinbrenner family has done great damage to America’s greatest sports franchise but even with their maladministration of the Yankees, there has been occasional greatness since George Steinbrenner began his reign of errors in 1973, when he bought the Yankees from CBS for $8.8 million (poor choice by CBS – the Yankees are now worth nearly $8 billion). The Yankees are back in the World Series for the first time since 2009, and against their ancient rivals the Dodgers, too.

The iconic moments the Yankees have had since first winning the World Series 101 years ago are too numerous to recount here, but some really stand out. And not many are as great as what Reggie Jackson did in Game 6 in 1977, when he hit three home runs on three pitchers’ first pitches…
