SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — The greater Philadelphia region is in desperate need of rain. The last time it had any measurable rainfall was more than three weeks ago — one of the top 10 longest dry stretches on record, according to the National Weather Service. The longest stretch was 29 days back in 1874.
Most of the region is in a moderate drought, but parts of South Jersey are in a severe drought. Gov. Phil Murphy issued a statewide drought watch last week, urging homeowners and businesses to conserve water.
The water supply in the state has reached a concerning level, officials said. State geologist Steve Domber said it would take a couple of months of above-average precipitation to get out of this situation…
