McPherson could be back this week for Auburn kicking game

AUBURN, Alabama–When Auburn signed Towns McGough out of Auburn High School in the 2024 class, the plan was to redshirt and take his turn down the road once Alex McPhersons eligibility was done with the Tigers. But plans changed in a big way for McGough, McPherson and the Auburn kicking game when the junior was hit with a gastrointestinal disorder that caused him to lose nearly a third of his body weight over the course of six months beginning in late December.

Unable to begin kicking until just a few weeks ago, McPherson appears poised to get back on the field for the Tigers as early as this weekend when Auburn travels to Kentucky to face the Wildcats.

It comes at a good time with McGough struggling the last few games after getting off to a strong start this season. Connecting on 5-10 field goals this year, McGough has missed four of his last seven attempts including a couple of short ones in losses to Oklahoma and last week at Missouri. A player that Auburn has confidence in and believes he has a bright future, McGough is still expected to kick off for the Tigers and also handle long field goals…
