Sacramento canine aficionados and their furry companions may soon have a new stomping ground, courtesy of the Department of Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment’s latest endeavor. Sacramento City Express reports that the city has taken a democratic approach to developing a new dog park, seeking local input to hash out the potential locales within William Land Park.

The Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment is chomping at the bit to get community members to chime in during a public open house this Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 6-7:15 p.m. at the Belle Cooledge Library. They will lay out the findings of a survey that more than 1,600 residents responded to, offering a snapshot of the local sentiments regarding dog parks in Land Park and Curtis Park areas. According to FOX40, Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment’s park planning and development services manager, Jason Wiesemann, stated, “The open house is a chance for the community to provide input and help ensure the new dog park meets the needs of Sacramento’s four-legged friends and their owners, along with all other park users.”

During the event, residents will engage in discussions about the survey’s outcomes, which unveiled preferences on features and amenities. They’ll also review the top two options for the park’s location, which garnered the most support in the survey, and will ultimately cast their votes, deciding which one becomes the go-to spot for tail-waggers to hang loose off-leash. In a statement obtained by Sacramento City Express, Wiesemann said, “We’re excited to plan a dedicated dog park within Land Park that will offer a safe, enjoyable place for dogs to exercise, socialize, and play off-leash.”…
