Falcons sign WR Phillip Dorsett to practice squad

The Atlanta Falcons could still use a little more speed on offense. Kirk Cousins has shown a willingness to take deep shots, even if his intended air yards per attempt are decidedly middle of the pack, and the Falcons have room for a role player who can take the top off a defense.

Enter Phillip Dorsett, who may or may not turn out to be that kind of option. The Falcons just signed him to the practice squad, and the 31-year-old wide receiver could work his way into a gameday role if he’s impressive in practice over the coming weeks.

Dorsett was a former first round pick who never came close to living up to the hype; his career-high for receptions is 32, set back in his rookie season with the Patriots. Throughout his career, he’s been a credible intermediate-to-deep threat, if a lightly used one. In 2022, the last season where Dorsett played significant snaps, he averaged 9.8 yards before the catch, which would have been good for 21st in the NFL had he had enough receptions to qualify; he also only has four drops on 153 targets over the past five seasons…
