California’s newest city park features steel beams saved from old dismantled toll bridge

A new $33-million waterfront park, Bayfront Park, officially opened in San Francisco on Tuesday, offering a scenic retreat near the Chase Center. The 5.5-acre park features expansive lawns and unique rusted steel support beams from the original eastern span of the Bay Bridge.

The park, owned and managed by the Port of San Francisco, was funded by the Mission Bay Development Group in collaboration with the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure. The long, narrow park stretches from Terry Francois Boulevard to the San Francisco Bay, enhancing public access to the waterfront. Its opening follows the launch of another shoreline park just days earlier.
