Bishop ends camp week for special needs amid Pride flag dispute

Oct. 22—A weeklong Catholic camp for children and adults with intellectual and physical challenges was discontinued after “code of conduct” violations involving Pride flags, volunteers said.

The Catholic Diocese of Manchester announced on Friday that Camp Fatima will no longer host Exceptional Citizens Week, a free co-ed program open to campers of all faiths, age 9 and older. Exceptional Citizens Week has run for 60 years at the camp in Gilmanton Iron Works near Upper Suncook Lake.

Andrew Thibault, the executive director of the diocese’s Camps Fatima and Bernadette, did not return phone messages and emails about the decision. Thibault became the new executive director in July and EC Week was held roughly a month later.
