Newark Cub Scouts learn the nuts and bolts of pumpkin decorating

The Cub Scouts of Pack 56 gathered at the First Presbyterian Church of Newark on Tuesday night to decorate pumpkins, but these were no ordinary jack-o’-lanterns. Carrying on a Pack 56 tradition that dates back decades, the Scouts decorated the pumpkins by hammering in nuts, bolts, washers, etc. to create metallic designs. Some made faces, while others went for a more abstract design. Scout leaders say it’s a unique tradition that the kids look forward to every year and is safer than carving pumpkins with knives…
