HABD reflects on security upgrades since Kamille ‘Cupcake’ McKinney’s kidnapping, murder

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – It’s a somber day for Birmingham. Tuesday marks five years since three-year-old Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney was kidnapped from Tom Brown Village, and later found dead.

Ken Forman, the public safety director of the Birmingham Housing Authority, had only been in his role for about two months when Cupcake was kidnapped. He reflected on the outpouring of support from the community, all trying to bring that little girl home. This tragic case has led to significant security upgrades across housing communities.

“Everyone came together; we even had volunteers who wanted to help me and the police with searches. When we found out that Cupcake had been found and that she had been murdered, it was devastating,” Foreman explained. “Our hearts sank, and our thoughts were with the family, just as they are today.”…
