Weak La Niña may bring colder, snowier conditions back to Wisconsin this winter

(WLUK) –The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration hasreleased its Winter Outlook for 2024-2025, which looks at the months of December, January and February.

The forecast includes a development of a weak La Niña, which will have impacts on the Great Lakes region.

A La Niña occurs whensea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean are cooler than usual, affecting the atmospheric circulation. This tends to bring colder and snowier conditions to the northern parts of the U.S., but a weak version of this can result in less winter action…
