City still seeking answers into underground fires in Baltimore

Not many answers were given into the cause of several underground fires in Baltimore this year during an infrastructure safety meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Baltimore City Councilman Mark Conway, who is part of the council’s Public Safety and Government Operations Committee, requested maps of underground utilities and questioned fire, transportation and BGE officials about why so many underground fires have happened on Charles Street just in the last year.

“We can’t do anything until we understand what the problem is, and that, for many reasons, is not sufficient for folks who live on that block, or work on that block, or are managing businesses on that block,” Conway said…
