COVID-19 Vaccine Recommendations

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its recommendations for the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine. Immunocompromised individuals aged 65 and older should receive a second dose six months after their first.

Flexibility for Immunocompromised

For those who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, the CDC allows for additional doses in consultation with a healthcare provider.

Updated Vaccines

The Food and Drug Administration has approved updated vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna that target the KP.2 variant. These vaccines also protect against other recent strains.

CDC Recommendations

The CDC recommends that all Americans ages six months and older get the updated vaccine to protect against the expected fall and winter surge.

Survey Results

Despite these recommendations, less than half of Americans plan to get the COVID or flu vaccine this season.

Importance of Vaccination

The CDC emphasizes the importance of vaccination for protecting high-risk individuals. The vaccine can also reduce the risk of long-term COVID symptoms.
