It’s no secret that rain hasn’t fallen in any considerable amount for weeks in the Hudson Valley. While the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) hasn’t declared a drought, they have increased local fire risk assessments.

High Fire Risks in the Hudson Valley

Nearly the entire eastern half of New York State currently has a “high” fire risk assessment due to the increasing dry conditions. While burn bans are now in effect in many parts of Ulster County, some towns have taken it a step further.

State of Emergency in the Town of Lloyd

The town of Lloyd, NY has declared a state of emergency in response to high fire risks. Not only does the state of emergency include a burn ban like many other Ulster County towns, but includes language to allow officials to “take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property “.
