MISSOULA, Mont. – The future of the Maclay Bridge, located just west of Missoula, is under discussion by the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT).
There are current plans to construct a new bridge across the Bitterroot River, which would likely impact changes to the existing Maclay Bridge. However, the MDT emphasizes the importance of maintaining the bridge’s historic integrity.
“The main thing is you got to maintain it as a bridge, and it needs to keep its historic integrity,” Cultural Resource Manager Jon Axline said. “So, if you saw it somewhere you would recognize it as the Maclay Bridge at some other spot.”…
