LA County Warns Beachgoers, High Bacterial Levels at Popular Beaches from Malibu to San Pedro

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued ocean water use warnings for a handful of popular beaches stretching from Malibu to San Pedro.

Specific areas flagged in the warnings include Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey and both the Outer and Inner Cabrillo Beaches in San Pedro. At Santa Monica Pier, it’s advised to avoid the waters for 100 yards in either direction from the pier. Meanwhile, Topanga Canyon and Big Rock beaches in Malibu have similar buffer zones. The reason for this caution is bacterial levels at these sites have shot past health standards in recent tests, posing potential health risks to unwary swimmers.
