AEP announces that Meeks Mountain Trails will not be affected in new upgrade

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Three months ago, Appalachian Power announced plans to replace over 20 miles of above ground transmission lines in Cabell and Putnam counties, causing community outrage.

The issue is the proposed route would go straight through Meeks Mountain Trails, but AEP says they will try to go around trails.

“That‘s awesome,” trail user Matt Stevens said. “I think that’s really important because as a trail user and as a resident of Hurricane, I think its really great to come to the conclusion that AEP has to work with the community and find a reroute plan that goes around Meeks Mountain Trails.”…
