A state housing agency has awarded $20 million to the city of Indianapolis to build the city’s first homeless shelter funded entirely by tax dollars.
The $32 million Housing Hub, a low-barrier shelter where individuals and families will face fewer restrictions on their behavior, will include a day center and housing navigation center for connecting guests to permanent housing.
After Mayor Joe Hogsett committed $12 million to the center, the project passed its final hurdle Thursday when the state-run Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority approved $20 million for construction costs…
