Meadowlands Museum will host a pre-Halloween cemetery tour. Why some call it disrespectful

LYNDHURST — A planned historical tour of Hillside Cemetery on Rutherford Avenue is drawing criticism from people with family buried there, who say the tour is disrespectful to their loved ones.

The guided walking tour, planned by the Meadowlands Museum for Sunday at 1 p.m., will visit about a dozen graves of notable local people buried at the cemetery, which was founded in 1882.

Among those at rest there are Joey Ramone, lead singer of the Ramones, the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet William Carlos Williams, the artist Robert Smithson, the two co-founders of the company Becton-Dickinson, Maxwell Becton and Fairleigh S. Dickinson, who was also the benefactor and namesake of Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Alexander Russell Webb, a writer, publisher, an early American convert to Islam and the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines…
