The Dublin to New York portal closed but a new one is relocating to major US city

The Dublin portal to New York shut down permanently, but the makers have announced an opening in Philadelphia .

The popular tourist attraction , an internet live stream in an oval frame, generated much discussion on both sides of the Atlantic.

Despite rumors that the New York portal shut down early because people were using it to transmit inappropriate images, it was due “to facilitate another art installation,” said Jamie Cudden, Smart Dublin program manager with Dublin City Council.

Less than a week after opening, the New York one was shut down and reopened on May 19 with reduced hours and automatic shutdown measures if someone held a phone too close to the camera. This came after one Dublin user projected video footage of the Twin Towers on fire during 9/11 and another introduced pornographic content on the stream.

“The New York Portal was intended as a short arts project,” Cudden said, assuring the public of the portal’s timeline. The Irish wanted to drive home the mission to foster Ireland’s international relationships…
