Expanding air service and market key for lower Grand Forks flight costs

GRAND FORKS – Improving air service from Grand Forks isn’t just about receiving a potential grant from the United States Department of Transportation, but also making Grand Forks a place that people want to fly from, according to the Meehan Aviation Group.

The Meehan Group is the aviation consulting firm helping the city with a community air service grant that, if received, could help Grand Forks augment the cost of an additional carrier coming to Grand Forks . A grant application was submitted earlier this year and an award announcement may be made in mid-November.

“(The announcement date) could go back (or) it could go forward. It’s tough with federal agencies,” Sonjia Murray, representing the Meehan Group, said to the Grand Forks City Council on Oct. 21. “This community did a really good job of getting flight commitments (and contributions).”…
