Sheriff Burby says Westbrook’s death was drug related and not a case of murder

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby announced Thursday that it now appears that Cierra Wesbrook, 33 of Deweyville was not murdered as first thought but instead died from an apparent use and possibly an overdose of drugs.

Burby released a statement saying the final autopsy report from a medical examiner indicated that Westbrook’s death was accidental, due to methamphetamine toxicity, and not a result of foul play.

Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at about 5 p.m. on August 23, reporting that a woman’s body had been found near the roadway on County Road 4203 in Deweyville…
