Friday forecast: Much cooler, feeling like fall through Saturday

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Last night’s cold front will lead to highs about 20-25 degrees cooler today vs yesterday. Temperatures more typical for late October which continues tomorrow as well before warming back up Sunday into early next week. After some areas got rain last night, heavy in spots including 1.39″ at Billard in Topeka, the next chance for rain will be with a storm system next Wednesday.

Taking Action:

  1. Patchy frost can’t be ruled out both mornings this weekend with lows in the mid-upper 30s. Unlikely to get a freeze but something to continue to monitor.
  2. Winds will be a factor to begin the work week, gusts 40-45 mph will be likely Monday and Tuesday. If you are going to be doing any planned burns this weekend due to the lighter winds PLEASE make sure it’s put out properly. Any fires that reignite will be tough to control early next week until the winds begin to diminish Tuesday night and rain moves in on Wednesday as winds will remain strong Monday night.

The next 8 days will bring a wide range in weather conditions with the exception of temperatures getting below freezing. In the short term there may be a few clouds late this afternoon into this evening but the better chance of getting clouds will be late Saturday into Saturday evening. Regardless of clouds it won’t produce any rain and won’t have much of an impact on temperatures.
