FORECAST: At this point, I’m sure I sound like a broken record, but the dry stretch of weather persists for Connecticut. The drought monitor is still the same, but now Northwest Litchfield County is in a moderate drought. This will likely get worse with more dry weather ahead. A red flag warning will be in effect from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday. This means there is a significantly elevated fire growth potential. Areas affected currently include Fairfield and New Haven counties. The winds will pick up out of the northwest 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 25-30 mph. Relative humidity will be low. If a fire starts, rapid spreading may occur due to the combination of the weather as well as the very dry brush and vegetation. …
