It was a quiet Saturday afternoon in northwest Louisiana two weeks ago when county deputies got an urgent request from Michigan: Be on the lookout for 37-year-old Carlos Jose Hernandez, thought to be a fake DTE worker and linked to a killing in Rochester Hills.
The Michigan tip said Hernandez was in a pickup truck, heading south on I-49 from Arkansas. Deputies in Caddo Parish spotted the truck and followed it into downtown Shreveport. That’s where Deputy Michael Rocco was able to pull Hernandez over and take him into custody without incident, arresting him not only for the Michigan killing but also for several armed-robbery warrants from Ohio.
Since then, Michigan authorities have been seeking Hernandez’s return. On Friday, he was arraigned in Rochester Hills’ 52-3 District Court. Judge Laura Polizzi denied bond, just as she did last week for Hernandez’s alleged accomplice, 39-year-old Joshua Zuazo. Both men, residents of Dearborn, have been charged with the murder of jeweler Hussein (Sam) Murray, 72.
