Houston, Texas is mourning the loss of their eldest resident as news of the passing of Elizabeth Francis is making its way across the Lone Star State and the rest of the country. Francis was born before women even had the right to vote with the 19th Amendment, and has lived almost her entire life in Texas.
After 115 years of an incredible life full of numerous personal achievements and first hand witnessing nearly countless decades of historical significance, she now passes the torch to Naomi Whitehead of Greenville, Pennsylvania.
Francis held the title of being at least the fifth oldest person on the planet over that last couple of years, and she continued to reside with her daughter, who is in her 90s. During Francis’s lifetime she witnessed 20 different presidents live in the White House, although the first was William Howard Taft for the last 4 months of his presidency.
