IUP, CAL U FACE OFF IN COAL BOWL TODAY

Today marks the 15th annual Coal Bowl as IUP faces California University of Pennsylvania.

IUP is coming off a win against Seton Hill, while California is riding a six game winning streak and is coming off a stunning victory over Slippery Rock 28-7. The Vulcans have the lead in the all-time series 9-5. The Coal Bowl began in 2009 when California alumnus Bob Lippencott and his brother Barry, a graduate of IUP, established football scholarships to their respective universities. Their families also donated the Coal Pail trophy that is presented to the winner of the rivalry between the two PSAC member institutions. Each Year’s winners will get a tag on the pail to represent their victory. The pail has been fought over for 15 years, skipping the Covid-cancelled season of 2020…
