Houston Murder Suspect Caught in Chicago and Awaits Extradition for June Shooting Death

The Houston community received updates on a months-old homicide case when authorities apprehended James Harris, a 30-year-old suspect in the shooting death of Zacharian Howard, 28. The incident, which took place back on June 29 at approximately 9:50 p.m., occurred at an apartment complex located at 5900 Greens Road. City of Houston News reported that Harris, charged with murder, is currently held by the Chicago Police Department, pending his extradition to face prosecution in Harris County.

On that fateful night, Houston Police Department’s patrol officers found Howard unresponsive, lying across the front doorway of an apartment, marked by multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the prompt arrival and efforts of the Houston Fire Department paramedics, Howard’s life was pronounced lost on the scene. Houston detectives K. Hale and B. Stephens, as part of the HPD Homicide Division, uncovered that the victim had left his residence following a phone call from an acquaintance to settle a previous dispute and was subsequently shot by the acquaintance who later turned out to be fleeing Harris on foot.

The subsequent investigation collected witness statements and evidence that pointed directly to James “Jay Foe” Harris. With this information, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office proceeded to issue charges against Harris for his supposed role in Howard’s death.
