Piatt’s OT: Kasper, Krause bounce back from injuries to help teams succeed

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley offense faced a second-and-10 in the second quarter. The Falcons had been running the ball well in their Week 2 matchup against Deer Creek-Mackinaw early in the 2023 season, and they decided this was the perfect time to catch the defense off guard with a deep pass to Austin Kasper.

A junior at the time, Kasper jumped to make the catch, but the defender knocked it away. Kasper tried to keep his balance but fell back and tweaked his wrist.

He played the rest of the game but found out the following week that he had broken his wrist. He came back the week after that with a cast and a doctor’s note that said he could continue to kick for the team but should steer clear of any contact…
