Hawks Fly by Wentworth Institute of Technology

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford men’s soccer team picked up a huge Conference of New England (CNE) win on Saturday defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 4-2 final.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Hawks started fast as senior Devan Jessop (Ashaway, R.I.) found the foot of junior Nick Castrovinci (Roxbury, N.J.) who bested the Leopard keeper to give the home team the lead in the 2nd minute. The lead doubled in the 6th minute as sophomore Austin Murawski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) drew contact in the box and got the call to earn a penalty kick. Murawski finished the penalty to get the 2-0 lead. In the 13th minute the lead almost jumped to 3-0, but Murawski hit the outside post as the lead stayed at 2-0. The first chance for the visitors took place in the 19th minute with Luis Valiente took a shot saved by junior Ryan Lunn (Southington, Conn.). The teams would battle in the midfield for the remainder of the half with the Hawks taking a 2-0 lead into the break.
  • In the 50th minute the Leopards would draw one back as they drew a penalty of their own. Alex Burham finished the kick for Wentworth to cut the deficit to 2-1. Hartford would answer right back as Castrovinci hit the woodwork before Murawski sprinted in to finish off the goal in the 51st minute. Lunn made a fantastic save in the 65th minute saving a shot from the Leopards from point blank range to keep the score at 3-1. Senior Kellijah Morgan (Kingston, Jaimaca) added the insurance in the 68th minute chipping the ball over the keeper to produce the 4-1 lead. Wentworth got a late score to close out the scoring as Elan Mendivil found Kingston McGee on the second goal for the Leopards as the game concluded 4-2.

To get a playoff game we knew we needed this win and pressing helped us right away and thankfully I got the easy goal. The team has been pushing me to do my best and the coaches of course.
