Harris Regains Slight Lead in 2024 Presidential Race

Vice President Kamala Harris has regained a slight lead over Donald Trump among likely voters in the 2024 presidential race, according to the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll. Harris leads by 51-47%, but the race remains close enough for the outcome to be determined by the Electoral College.

Issues

Harris holds a significant advantage over Trump in trust to handle abortion and healthcare, while Trump has a lead on immigration, the economy, and inflation. However, the importance of economic concerns has declined slightly, potentially benefiting Harris.

Personal Attributes

Harris also leads Trump on personal attributes such as mental sharpness, physical health, honesty, trustworthiness, and empathy. However, Trump matches Harris on trust in a crisis.

Voter Groups

Harris has made gains among Hispanic voters and suburban women, while Trump has improved his performance among white men without college degrees and rural voters. Trump also has a slight edge among men younger than 40.

Turnout

Harris’s lead among likely voters relies on consolidated support among Democratic base groups such as Black people and liberals. While both candidates have similar levels of voter enthusiasm, Harris maintains a slight edge in voter contact.

Methodology

The poll was conducted online among 2,808 adults, including 2,392 registered voters and 1,913 likely voters. The margin of sampling error is 2 percentage points for the full sample and 2.5 points for likely voters.
