OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — After a quiet weekend, we’ll be looking at an interesting next few days in regards to the weather. We’ll see fire conditions become quite high Monday and Tuesday, while Wednesday will see the chance of severe weather.
We know how hot and dry it has been for weeks. We had fires spread Thursday of last week, but the conditions setting up for Monday could be worse. Highs will rise back to near-record territory Monday with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s thanks to strong winds out of the south over 40 mph.
Gusts might stay in the 40+ mph range Tuesday, but as of now, the Wind Advisory in northern Oklahoma is only for Monday.
Essentially, we’ll be just as hot Monday as we were last week. We are still just as dry. And now, we will be even more windy. Due to all of this, we have Red Flag Warnings posted for parts of the state Monday afternoon.
It is possible we could see these fire conditions/alerts extend into Tuesday, but Monday would have the higher threat of the two days. The reason Tuesday might not be as bad is due to some slightly higher dew points working into the area ahead of Wednesday.
Which brings us to Wednesday.
The reason we’ll be so windy the next few days is due to a deepening area of low pressure to the west. As it moves off the mountains and into the Plains, it will setup a chance for potential severe weather Wednesday afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center has already issued a Slight Risk for Wednesday for a wind and hail threat. Even though those will be the main threats, we cannot rule out an isolated tornado.
There could be some showers Wednesday morning, but the window of opportunity we’d be most concerned about will be the afternoon and evening…
