Texas A&M’s Mike Elko discusses decision to turn to Marcel Reed in second half of Aggies’ win over LSU

Mike Elko has stated multiple times he believes the Aggies have multiple quarterbacks that he can win games with. On Saturday night, sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed came off the bench to jumpstart Texas A&M’s offense in a 38-23 win over LSU.

With the offense struggling to get much going under Conner Weigman, Elko turned to Reed in the third quarter, who’s mobility helped change the game in the second half. Elko has often credit Reed’s ability to stay ready for any situation and that rang true as the sophomore quarterback had three rushing touchdowns off the bench.

“Yeah, he works his tail off. He never backed away. When we needed him early, he came, he was ready. When we went back to Connor, he stayed ready,” Elko said in his postgame interview with Holly Rowe. “We felt like the way the game was going, we needed him tonight and he was still ready. He’s a great kid. He’s a great competitor. He won this football game tonight.”…
