Chargers Girls Soccer Shut Out by Old Bridge in GMC Semifinals

OLD BRIDGE, NJ – For the second year in a row, the Spotswood High School girls varsity soccer team’s Greater Middlesex Conference run ended in the tournament’s semifinals. The third-seeded Chargers were shut out 2-0 by second-seeded Old Bridge High School on Saturday at Geick Park. Old Bridge scored one goal in each half to advance to the GMC finals at Piscataway High School on Tuesday against top-seeded Monroe Township High School. Monroe defeated fifth-seeded East Brunswick High School 3-0 in the other semifinal game on Saturday.

Alyssa Penn and Alexis Vaccaro had goals for Old Bridge. Morgan Nelson assisted on both of the Knights’ goals. Freshman Kaelin Obado made 10 saves for the Chargers. Jessica Lane had three saves for Old Bridge.

Spotswood’s loss dropped the Chargers’ overall season record to 16-3. The Chargers won the team’s third consecutive Greater Middlesex Conference Division title earlier this month. Spotswood wraps up the regular season on Wednesday when the team heads down the shore to take on Point Pleasant Beach High School at the G. Harold Antrim Elementary School. Game time is at 4 p.m…
