Starting in June, Alabamians could receive a citation from law enforcement if holding a cell phone while driving. (WTVY)

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – It’s illegal to hold your cell phone while driving in Alabama.

The law took effect in June of 2023, but police began their official crackdown in June of this year.

“The stipulation was they give 12 months of a warning, like a grace period, to give people an opportunity to come into compliance, to make sure they’re aware of the law being in effect. Since June of 2024, we’ve been issuing citations,” said Lt. John Angle with the Mobile Police Department…
