Downed power lines spark brush fires in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Downed power lines sparked multiple brush fires in Suffolk Monday afternoon.

Polices said a tractor-trailer near the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and C Street hit the power lines causing the pole to break and the lines to be pulled from the pole.

The incident was initially reported to Suffolk dispatch as a commercial building fire around 2:39 p.m.

Dominion energy secured power to the area in order for crews to extinguish the fire. The fire was marked under control in about 17 minutes and did not extend into any buildings…
