Update: Marana (9-0 overall, 4-0 in the 5A Southern) remains the No. 1 team in the Open Division in the fourth release of the power ratings by the AIA on Tuesday. The Tigers are the top overall program in the state, still atop 6A Phoenix-area powerhouse programs Chandler Basha (No. 2 at 7-1) and Peoria Liberty (No. 4 at 7-1). … Marana’s lofty rating is based on victories over Salpointe, Gilbert Higley, Buena and Tucson High. .. Marana travels Friday to No. 35 Desert View (2-6). That may or may not adversely affect Marana’s No. 1 ranking. The Tigers are more than three power-points ahead of No. 2 Horizon, so they will probably remain No. 1 no matter what unless they are upset by the Jaguars. … The top eight teams advance to the Open Division playoffs. Ironwood Ridge went from No. 13 to No. 14 in the Open Division ratings after beating winless Nogales last week. Salpointe has appeared for the first time in the top 16 of the Open Division at No. 15.
