Dry weather prevailed in California on Tuesday amid mostly clear skies, but the storm door remained wide open, with both rain and snow on the way. A large area of low pressure in the north Pacific Ocean will likely send two big pushes of precipitation Wednesday into the weekend. In Northern California, the highest elevations of the Sierra Nevada could get up to 1.5 to 2 feet of snow, and downtown Sacramento and San Francisco could see up to 1 inch of rain, from Wednesday to Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Precipitation isn’t expected to arrive in Southern California until the weekend, and amounts should be lower than those to the north.
This is all good news in the Golden State, which has seen only a few weak, showery storms since Oct. 1, the start of the wet season.
