SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) — A $50 million U.S. Forest Service grant will protect more than 62,000 acres across three counties in what’s being called one of the largest conservation projects in the state’s history.
“Today marks an unprecedented victory for conservation and commerce,” state forester Scott Phillips said. “The funding announced for this initiative is a win on every level – for our state’s economy, for our workforce, for residents and for wildlife.”
The so-called “Pee Dee Basin” properties involved span Georgetown, Marion and Williamsburg counties along the Santee, Black and Pee Dee rivers. Officials said the transaction is expected to be finalized by the end of 2025…
