Group awarded $20 million to rehabilitate Duck River

Nashville, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Duck River is home to one of the most biodiverse waterways in the country, not to mention the source of water it provides for thousands of Tennesseans.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently awarded one Tennessee organization $20,000 to help rehabilitate the river, which is currently under threat.

Within its waters, the Duck River Watershed Society says you will find more than 650 aquatic species, which play a key role in helping purify the river.

“There’s about 70 kinds of mollusk and there’s like seven endangered creatures, mollusks that live in the watershed, so it’s very important to preserve it because not only do all those creatures rely on it but almost 350,000 people a day get their drinking water from the Duck River along Middle Tennessee,” said Christian Rieseberg, vice chair and treasurer of the Duck River Watershed Society…
