Governor Glenn Youngkin visited Petersburg on Wednesday to celebrate the two-year anniversary of Partnership for Petersburg — an initiative to help improve the city launched by the governor in 2022 — and celebrate two city revitalization projects: the ongoing Sycamore Grove development and the grand reopening of the Hotel Petersburg.
The governor kicked off his visit at 10:30 a.m. by breaking ground on the Sycamore Grove mixed-use development project alongside Mayor Samuel Parham. The development, which will sit at the old hospital site at 801 S. Sycamore St., will include a mix of retail, office and residential space, including 172 new residential units and a brand new Grant’s Supermarket grocery .
The long-awaited grocery would finally bring a major food retailer to downtown Petersburg, which has long been considered a “food desert” — an area where low-income and/or minority residents do not have immediate access to fresh and nutritious food…
