MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), in partnership with the Ocala Police Department and the Department of Corrections, announces Operation “Candy Sweep,” a coordinated effort to enhance public safety during Halloween festivities.

Law enforcement officials will conduct compliance checks on approximately 300 registered sexual predators and offenders throughout Marion County to ensure they follow Halloween restrictions. These individuals are prohibited from:

  • Having exterior lights on
  • Displaying Halloween decorations
  • Distributing candy to trick-or-treaters

Detectives will also monitor community Halloween events to verify these individuals are not in attendance. MCSO emphasizes that parents and guardians should avoid homes with their lights off, as this could indicate either non-participation in Halloween activities or a residence subject to these restrictions.

“Our priority is keeping children safe while they enjoy their Halloween activities,” said the Sheriff’s Office. “We encourage residents to check our website at marionso.com/sex-offenders to familiarize themselves with restricted locations before planning their trick-or-treat routes.”…
