Smithsburg’s Michael Wynkoop and Cora Gentzel claimed individual titles, while the Leopards’ girls and Boonsboro’s boys won team titles in the Maryland Class 1A West cross country championships Thursday at Clear Spring.
Wynkoop, a junior who finished second last year, took the boys title in 16:32.0 on an unseasonably warm afternoon, with temperatures in the low-80s.
“The fact we’re not used to it — we’ve been racing in 45-50 degree weather and you get used to it — but we train in the summer in this,” Wynkoop said. “I got the job done with my (win) and that’s all that matters.”…
