Civil Service Commission Backs Methuen Firing of Former Capt. Gallant After Salary Scandal

The Massachusetts Civil Service Commission Thursday reversed a tentative decision and backed Methuen’s 2022 firing of then-Police Capt. Gregory Gallant.

As WHAV reported more than two years ago, Mayor Neil Perry fired Gallant “following the completion of an extensive internal affairs investigation.” The Commission said it agreed with the city “notwithstanding a different recommendation” in 2023 from a Division of Administrative Law Appeals administrative magistrate.

“…Gallant did not act in good faith in attempting to consummate a collective bargaining agreement with city officials that would have resulted in exorbitant pay increases for himself, a select group of senior Methuen police officers, and the now-indicted former Methuen police chief, Joseph Solomon,” read the decision…
