A state championship and a two-year unbeaten streak was in jeopardy of slipping away. After taking a 2-0 lead, East River’s girls bowling team lost Games 3 and 4 to surging Villages Charter, which owned the momentum going into a deciding fifth set.
The Falcons huddled with coach Tom Tagye, took a collective deep breath and delivered the best game of the best-of-five match. They bowled eight strikes on the way to 225 that beat Village’s 209 and closed out a repeat FHSAA state championship at Orlando’s Boardwalk Bowl & Entertainment Center.
