Universal Orlando Resort is officially expecting to open its newest park, Epic Universe, in May 2025. With five brand-new, immersive areas, it will be the biggest addition to any Orlando theme park in over a decade. Although Walt Disney World has reigned supreme for years, many fans are concerned about the current response from the Disney parks ahead of Epic’s opening.
It seems as though every few months there is a new update to the Disney parks’ Lightning Lane system, the system that replaced FastPass+ after the COVID-19 pandemic. At first, it was Genie+, which operated through the My Disney Experience app and now required guests to purchase a “Lightning Lane” for rides that they wanted a FastPass for. Genie+ was a separate purchase in addition to a park ticket and prices varied depending on the day and time of year.
Disney Changes the Genie+/Lighting Lane/FastPass System
Under the Genie+ Lightning Lane system, guests could make up to three reservations at a time, similar to the previous FastPass reservation system. However, certain attractions, like the popular Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, were not available within that pass and were available as separate, individual Lightning Lane purchases.
