The Howard family of Knottsville, Kentucky have a decade-long tradition of raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. It started when Jenny and William’s oldest son, Gavin, was listening to the WBKR St. Jude Radiothon with his mom. He was sitting in the backseat of the car, engrossed in a St. Jude story song, and his mom noticed he that was crying. Gavin told her that he wanted to do something to help. And, boy! Did he? Since that day, when he brought in about $30 of his birthday money, the Howards have made St. Jude a family mission and they have raised over $125,000 for the patients and families of the hospital.
Plus, they have announced plans for their 4th Annual Jammin’ for St. Jude Concert, which is coming up later this month.
Here’s a shot of last year’s crowd, which raised a whopping $33,000.
Jammin’ for St. Jude 2024 is coming up Saturday, November 16th and this year’s lineup of musical guests is impressive.
What makes Jammin’ for St. Jude so incredibly special and unique is the fact that the Howards have remained committed to booking only local talent for the stage. Various area musicians roll up their sleeves, get out their guitars and sing for St. Jude.
In addition to the live entertainment which gets underway at 2pm, there will also be hamburgers, hot dogs, pork nachos (I had them last year and they were ridiculously good), and pork sandwiches for sale. There’s also a drop box for St. Jude donations, raffles and an auction…
