Suspect in custody after hours-long SWAT standoff in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — A 40-year-old man was taken into custody after a SWAT standoff lasting nearly four hours in Salt Lake City on Thursday evening.

The standoff started around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 when police received a call about the man, identified as Michael Dayley, refusing to let a woman leave an apartment located near 1900 West North Temple.

Police previously told ABC4.com that Dayley went into the unit that was not his, but that he knew the woman from a previous relationship. Officers and crisis negotiators arrived on the scene and tried communicating with Dayley and the woman, though Dayley refused to leave the apartment.

The woman was reportedly able to escape the apartment using a ladder to safely climb out about an hour into the standoff. The Salt Lake City Police Department said she was taken to a secure area and was uninjured…
