Wanted man critically injured in shootout with Spotsylvania deputies

A suspect wanted in Chesterfield County was shot and critically injured during a shootout with Spotsylvania County deputies Saturday night just over the county line in the city of Fredericksburg, according to Virginia State Police.

The incident occurred about 8:50 p.m. at a gas station in the 3000 block of Plank Road (State Route 3) in Fredericksburg, a short distance east of the Spotsylvania line. A bystander also suffered minor injuries in the exchange, police said.

State police are investigating the incident at the request of the Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Brent Coffey said. The suspect, 37-year-old Lawrence Dale Toler II of Woodford, was at the gas station when he was approached by county deputies…
