Only one Chesterton High distance runner can lay claim to a top 100 finish last Saturday at the LaVern Gibson State Championship Cross Country Course and you could find him lying on his back for several minutes after he finished racing.
Sophomore Spencer Martin didn’t land there by missing on a backflip. He didn’t do any of those after fishing 91st with a time of 16:17.21, a solid performance, on a day he wanted more than solid.
Martin said he wanted to run a 15:30, a time that would have landed him 12th, which at this point in his career is not a realistic goal on that course…
