The captain and crew members of USS Arkansas (SSN 800), a new Virginia-class submarine currently under construction in Newport News, Virginia, will tour the state over Veterans Day weekend. For the second time visiting the state, the crew will wrap up its tour with a visit to the Twin Lakes Area. Prior to its arrival in Mountain Home, the crew will make stops in Little Rock and Jonesboro.
The crew will arrive in Little Rock on Thursday and participate in a series of events, including radio interviews and a press conference at the MacArthur Museum of Military History. Following its time in Little Rock, they will travel to Jonesboro for several community engagements on Saturday. The USS ARKANSAS crew will join the festivities at the Jonesboro Veterans Day Parade, where Cmdr. Huber will address the crowd. The event will highlight the importance of honoring veterans and the role of the new submarine, which is designed for various missions, including anti-submarine warfare and intelligence gathering.
As the crew makes its way to Mountain Home on Sunday, Nov. 10 tol tour local facilities, including the VEXUS Boats manufacturing plant and participate in a special dinner with local dignitaries hosted by Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams. Huber will be the guest speaker at the annual “Freedom Isn’t Free” ceremony at Mountain Home High School at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11. Veterans in the community are encouraged to attend.
